Product Details
Effective execution of a business model does not always require the latest technology or resources. In fact, some of the most innovative business models have been designed around off-the-shelf components. Higher profit with lower execution risk is rooted in identifying a different profit logic that can deliver what the customer really values, while capturing a larger percentage of the value than competitors. This value capture is made possible through an alignment between the profit logic and the critical value chain elements that drive execution. With clarity about this alignment, a business can acquire value chain elements with confidence and much lower cost, and even eliminate value chain elements that competitors consider indispensable. The net result is a higher probability of profits with easier execution. The note develops a systematic process that facilitates this alignment using a methodology called COAR: Customer Outcomes, Core Objectives, Activities, and Resources. It is designed for a final-year MBA class and can be used as a capstone course. It would also be suitable in a module covering business model innovation.
